Zazie Beetz Set To Star In 'Joker', A Stand-Alone Origin Movie
German-American actress Zazie Beetz, whose credits include comedy-drama television series Atlanta and Netflix Anthology series Easy and who has also won a lot of appreciation for reprising the Marvel Comics character Domino in Deadpool 2 (2018), is in talks to play a significant role in the forthcoming Hollywood movie Joker, the stand-alone origin project coming from the stable of Warner Bros. The Hangover Trilogy (2009, 2011, 2013) and Due Date (2010) helmer Todd Phillips is set to occupy the director’s chair for the movie about Gotham City’s Clown Prince of Crime.
Actor Joaquin Phoenix, who has been considered for another villainous DC role in the past: Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is headlining Joker as the iconic DC comics villain. As per reports, the movie is being planned on a moderate budget in comparison to other DC movies that have been churned out over the years. In addition to that, we also hear that the project is going to be darker. It will be more of a dark character study than a crime thriller.
Talking about the character that Zazie Beetz is in talks to the essay, she would play a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the “clown prince of crime.” Other important details about characters and the project are being kept under wraps.
Martin Scorsese will produce Joker, while Phillips and Scott Silver have written the script for it. The film is expected to mount the shooting floor in the month of in September in New York.
Joker is scheduled to hit the silver screen on 4th October 2019. The month of October 2019 is going to see an avalanche of big-ticket movies set to draw audiences to theatres. Joker is pitted against Paramount Pictures’ Gemini Man and Fox Star Studios’ The Woman in the Window. Disney’s Jungle Cruise, toplined by Dwayne Johnson, follows a week later.
