Xiaomi Mi 7: Everything We Expect To Appear in Xiaomi’s Next Flagship Device
For several years now, Xiaomi has been one of the top competitors in the mobile industry. With devices which mix both premium specifications and affordability, it’s safe to say that the Chinese-based phone maker isn’t going anywhere but up. To give you an example, Xiaomi recently released its Mi Mix 2S, the second iteration of its full-screen, bezel-less lineup, and within a short period of time, the smartphone was sold out. Now, it seems like Xiaomi does not intend to quell the hype on their devices as rumors of their next flagship device, the Xiaomi Mi 7, pop-up all over the interwebs.
With this being the case, we’ve placed it upon ourselves to gather everything there is to know about the device, laying it all down straight to your screens. So, get ready and take it all in!
Nowadays, the use of OLED screens is prevalent on all high-end devices, which was most recently demonstrated even by Apple’s iPhone X. That’s why we expect no less of a similar experience from Xiaomi when it comes to their new flagship device, the Mi 7.
According to recent reports, the Beijing tech giant is aiming to release the Mi7 with an OLED screen display provided by Samsung. This new display is said to measure somewhere between 5.5 inches to 5.8 inches with an aspect ratio of 19:9. On top of this, India Today shares that the handset will be somewhat similar to the S9, employing a more rounded design aesthetic and narrower bezels.
Aside from design elements, the company is also allegedly planning to adopt the most controversial notch feature, which has seen abundance in most phone designs of recent. However, unlike other notch designs, Xiaomi will be redesigning the notch, giving it a more compact and unobtrusive feel. First Post points out that this particular notch element in the Mi 7 will be similar in overall design and functionality in Vivo’s V9 and Oppo’s F7.
Dual Camera Setup
Another design component which Xiaomi Mi 7 shares with the iPhone X is the vertical camera setup comprised of two cameras. Not much has come up in terms of specifications when it comes to the device’s rear cameras, however, Gizmochina suggests that this hardware will borrow a lot of traits from the Mi Mix 2S’ setup, which sees an improvement in photo quality especially in low-light environments and scene detection.
In-Display Fingerprint Scanner or Facial Recognition
The Xiaomi Mi 7 is likely to come with an in-display fingerprint reader with recent leaks pointing out the absence of a fingerprint sensor at the back of the device. Aside from this, speculations have also risen detailing the Mi 7’s notch as having the capability for 3D facial recognition.
According to Gizmochina, several community members have discovered the presence of an infrared camera within the released firmware for the Xiaomi Mi 7. This development strongly suggests that Xiaomi is planning to adopt the new security feature, albeit in their own iteration.
Taking this into account, we can conclude that this is why a fingerprint sensor is missing in the new handheld device. However, it still remains to be seen if Xiaomi has indeed foregone the fingerprint reader feature with other rumors indicating an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Internals and Processor
In terms of hardware, we definitely see the new Mi7 with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 on board, which has been a standard feature on all current device present in the market. To go along with this, the Mi 7 will also be integrated with 4GB of RAM and an internal storage of 64GB. Though this already sounds promising, Xiaomi may ramp up the RAM to 6GB and the storage up to 128GB or, more likely, offer the device in both capacities.
Mi 7 Release Date
Although nothing has been confirmed yet, TechAdvisor believes that the Mi 7 will drop on a similar time frame with the Mi 6, which saw a release mid-April last year. They add the Xiaomi follows n annual release pattern like other mobile providers, that’s why it’s not impossible for the company to debut the device on the same date.
However, recent rumors point towards June as the launching timeline. An industry insider named Mocha RQ revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 7 release is currently stalled, which is caused by the new in-display fingerprint scanner allegedly coming with the device.
