Will We Get To See The Apple HomePod 2 or HomePod Mini This 2018?
Apple HomePod is currently behind Amazon Echo and Google Home speakers in the smart speaker section of the market. Despite showing a promising start, when it came around, it just didn’t stand up to its expectations and quickly fell into the bottom of the ranks. However, HomePod might get overhauled this year and we might get a few glimpses on what to expect for Apple and the smart speaker line.
Smart speaker market share that is being dominated by Amazon Echo and a little portion of Google Home, Apple looks like they might be on the end side of the wagon. If Apple wanted to keep up with the numbers, they will need to do some major adjustments.
Unveiled at the WWDC last year, Apple HomePods got off from a late start and hit the market only last February and featured itself as a good quality product but just didn’t made an impact to the consumers.
With a price tag that is almost doubled compared to Amazon Echo and Google Home, HomePod seems to be an outlier in the consumer’s budget. It will definitely stand out when you see a $300 plus smart speaker versus a sub $100 to $150 product which is more appealing to the masses.
This year, we might see a new breed of HomePods presenting a lower cost but still efficient smart speaker. A few months ago, according to a Taiwanese news site, the Economic Daily News, Apple will give consumers a budget-friendly line such as iPads, iPhones, and HomePods. Apple smart speaker that will be within the $100 to $200 price range will definitely shake the competition up. Apple also got a good boost in the software department recently when Apple announced in WWDC 2018 about the new shortcut app in iOS 12 that will provide more flexibility and control to other smart-home platforms within the Apple’s umbrella including the HomePod.
The price cut will be a noticeable update for the HomePod and we might see a smaller body with a compact design. It might be called HomePod 2 or might be HomePod Mini. Either way, new touch for the speaker’s aesthetics will give something new to the consumers’ eyes.
According to a report featured in macworld.co.uk, HomePod might also showcase the hottest thing floating in and around the Apple Products, the Face ID. David Ho, President of Inventec Appliances, also said that “Engineers are designing smart speakers that will not only come with voice recognition but also incorporate features such as facial and image recognition. Such AI-related features are set to make people’s lives more convenient and to make the product easier to use.” This was in reference to a HomePod that was made known in 2017.
With all the said features and advancements in the HomePod, we are not sure where and how they can fit the price tag end to end with the specs that go along with it. However, we haven’t seen much in the Apple’s hardware line recently but they might showcase it in the coming months alongside with the rumored cheap Mac Lines. What are the other things that you look forward to the Apple HomePod 2 or HomePod Mini? Stay tuned and let us know.
