Amazon Prime Video seems set to take on every existing streaming media platform in India in 2019. At least the way it has announced a series of upcoming shows for Indian and global audiences is something which suggests so. For the uninitiated, the leading streamer has given nod to over half a dozen new and returning Indian Prime Original Series. If we take its global offerings into account, the platform has greenlighted more than 20 new and returning series.

“We’re delighted to announce the commissioning of more than 20 new and returning series, to be produced in seven countries across three continents around the world,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios.

For the Indian market, the platform has announced six new series and returning series. These series include Bandish Bandits, a musical directed by Anand Tiwari. Basically, the series is a love story between Indian classical singer Radhe and pop star Tamanna. Then there is The Last Hour, helmed by Amit Kumar with Oscar-winning director Asif Kapadia acting as an executive producer. The crime thriller will have loads of supernatural elements to keep the audience hooked to their screens.

An untitled drama thriller series, created by Sudip Sharma, is also in the making. Sultan (2016) director Ali Abbas Zafar is also directing a series for the streamer, which explores the dark sides of Indian politics. Ali is expected to begin work on the series in March, right after wrapping up his upcoming Salman Khan starrer Bharat.

Besides all these fiction and semi-fiction series, Amazon Prime Video has also given its nod to a reality show which has been created by comedian Sapan Verma. Sapan will host it as well. Talking about what the streamer has on its plate for regional audiences, there is Comicstaan in the making in Tamil. Blockbuster series Breathe and Mirzapur are set to return with their second season. Abhishek Bachchan is making his digital debut with Breath.
