The tech giant Microsoft is holding a Surface hardware event tomorrow Oct 2 in New York City. Latest reports are pointing out that the company is going to introduce a Surface Laptop 2 and Surface Pro 6 at the said event. The company will unveil a series of reissues of its best-selling existing product line.

According to Engadget, the two devices might not have major overhauls. The design would be unchanged like without USB-C ports yet. The company is sticking with its trusted mini DisplayPort and Surface Connector combo for connecting displays and charging the device. This report matches the recently leaked photos of the upcoming laptop.

If this is likely true, which seems going to be, then this would be a surprising move from the company. This also could frustrate the users who have a USB-C smartphone or other modern peripherals. The company seems to continue dispensing the integration of USB-C or even the Thunderbolt support. The Surface Go and Surface Book 2 is confirmed to have the newer connector.

In terms of other specifications, all the new machines that are expected to be introduced this coming event will feature Intel’s quad-core 8th generation Core processors. There will have at least 8GB of RAM. Meanwhile, Surface Pro 6 will be a Core M-based entry level that includes 4GB of RAM and an Intel Core m3-7y30 processor.

Then, the Surface Laptop 2 will come with a modest 128GB SSD and Intel’s Core i5-8250U quad-core processor (1.6 GHz base clock, 3.6 GHz maximum). This is good news because the previous base model was shipped with just 4GB of RAM.

Both Surface Laptop 2 and Surface Pro 6 will be shipped in a black color variant. These devices will only be available on the pricier models. The hardware of these devices remains completely identical externally. The rest of the color palette for the upcoming laptop will be retained. There will still be models in blue, burgundy red, and more.
