The world’s third-largest smartphone maker Huawei seems to be working on a foldable smartphone very different from it recently introduced the P20 and P20 Pro. It is not only Samsung and Apple are exploring on a foldable device but also the company.

According to The Indian Express, the Dutch website LetsGoDigital discovered that a new patent from Huawei was just published on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) website. This patent was filed first last year on September 19 showing a different foldable smartphone unlike the already available ZTE Axon M, which had two different displays and uses a fold-out technique.

The foldable smartphone from Huawei will feature a large flexible display similar to a book that can be opened and closed in the middle by a folding mechanism, which is like the long-rumored Microsoft Surface Phone. This seems to be happening since their Chief Execute Officer Richard Yu mentioned last October that their company had been working on a prototype foldable device. This smartphone will have two screens in a single panel, but a small gap between those screens needs to be fixed. It will also serve as a tablet when it is in an open position.

Not only this leak but also numerous rumors regarding a foldable phone have also surfaced online. Previous reports in the past few months suggest that the big tech company Apple was reportedly teaming up with the South Korean electronics company LG and working with LG Display to build a foldable iPhone that could be unveiled as early as 2020. On the other hand, the South Korean big tech company Samsung also confirmed on working on a foldable smartphone known as the Galaxy X.

So far, no major tech company was capable of launching commercially a foldable smartphone in the market yet. Not much information is still known about this mysterious Huawei foldable smartphone. However, the device is being eyed to be released sometime this year.
