Microsoft Hire Sunset Overdrive Director Drew Murray For Xbox Two (Scarlett)?
Everybody is excited when it comes to the Xbox One’s successor. The tech company Microsoft seems to be in the campaign for hiring developers this week. Even if their bosses are looking forward to the future of gaming consoles, the company continues to bring in skilled staff.
According to Daily Star, Sunset Overdrive director Drew Murray just confirmed via a tweet that he has joined the company’s first-party development studio The Initiative. He will join alumni from Sony Santa Monica, Rockstar and Tomb Raider. He just finished working for Insomniac projects from Ratchet and Clank and has great credits on Sunset Overdrive.
The company is putting together a high pedigree triple-A studio The Initiative. This next-gen studio makes the new first-party exclusive for the Xbox One. This device competes with Sony’s products like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and Days Gone. This studio also indicates how aggressive the company is in expanding its roster of studios.
The company had just recently acquired inExile Entertainment and RPG maestros, Obsidian Entertainment. They also bought Hellbade creators Ninja Theory earlier this year. Even if the next-gen studio has not yet announced what they are working on, many reports and theories kept surfacing online about the company’s next plan of action. The studio’s game is aimed at the next generation on games consoles like the Xbox Two or Xbox Scarlett.
To those who are not aware, The Initiative is based at Santa Monica and was revealed during this year’s E3 press conference. Darrell Gallagher will lead the studio and is known for his work on the Tomb Raider reboot titles at Crystal Dynamics and at Activision. Christian Cantamessa is the narrative consultant at the studio. Her last role was a lead designer and writer on Red Dead Redemption. Then, Brian Westergaard is also joining the bandwagon and is known as the lead producer of God of War 2018.
