Karan Johar Set To Bankroll Sidharth Malhotra’s ‘Shershah’ Under Dharma Productions
Leading Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar is all set to produce his protégé Sidharth Malhotra’s forthcoming film on Kargil martyr Vikram Batra under his production banner, Dharma Productions.
When the project was conceived almost a year ago, the movie maven was not a part of it. Later on, Karan decided to join forces with producer Shabbir Boxwala and his team at Friday Cine Entertainment Private Limited and co-produce the movie. However, KJo was not too happy with how slowly the work on the project was progressing, and hence he has now decided to acquire the whole project and make it in the right way. The legal process for the same has begun, as per reports.
Rakhee Bajpai, the legal head of Dharma Productions, has issued a public notice a few days ago asking if anyone has any claim on the project before Dharma Productions acquires all the rights needed and begin the production.
As mentioned earlier, the movie is a biopic based on the life of Kargil martyr Vikram Batra who was also awarded a Param Vir Chakra posthumously. When the project was started, it had no name. But a source reveals that Karan might title it as Shershah. “The film has also got a name now. It will be called Shershah, and will be directed by Vishnu Vardhan and written by Sandeep Shrivastava. Dharma is now acquiring it from Friday Cine Entertainment Private Limited to produce, develop and distribute,” says the source.
Meanwhile, Sidharth Malhotra is presently shooting for Ekta Kapoor’s upcoming film Jabariya Jodi wherein the actor stars alongside Parineeti Chopra. The duo has last worked on Phantom Films and Dharma Productions’ successful film Hasee Toh Phasee (2014). Besides Jabariya Jodi, Malhotra is also rumored to be playing a pivotal role in filmmaker Anurag Basu’s Life In A… Metro 2. An official confirmation is awaited.
