Selma Blair Supports James Gunn; Wants Marvel To Take Him Back Onboard
Popular for her sterling performances in such movies as Requiem (1993), Hellboy (2004), The WB teen sitcom Zoe and Cruel Intentions, actress Selma Blair has come out in open support for director James Gunn who was recently dropped from helming the next instalment of the super successful superhero franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). Gunn, who has many credits to his career as a director and screenwriter, was axed by Disney on Friday after a couple of right-wing media outlets, including Fox News, stumbled on some years-old social media posts from the filmmaker on subjects like rape and pedophilia.
Reportedly, old posts were dredged up on purpose just to get Gunn into the hot water since he has openly criticized President Donald Trump and his policies time and again.
Blair took to Twitter in support of Gunn and thanked the filmmaker for helping and guiding her towards the right things in life. She also mentioned that Gunn is one of the most talented and decent men she has met.
“@JamesGunn I thank you for your talent, your decency and your evolution as a man. You propped me up when I was in a scary place, and guided me towards the decent and right thing to do. You have shown strength of character more than most anyone I know. You understood,” read her tweet.
In one of her tweets, the talented actress encouraged her followers to sign a Change.org petition to get the filmmaker back as the director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3. Talking about Gunn, she exclaimed, “This man is one of the good ones.”
She tweeted, “Marvel: RE-HIRE JAMES GUNN – Sign the Petition! Because if people are punished despite changing, then what does that teach people about owning mistakes and evolving? This man is one of the good ones.”
Blair is not the only Hollywood celebrity who has come out to support James Gunn and condemn the injustice meted out to him. Popular actor Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the franchise, wrote on Twitter that he is not okay with what is happening to the director. “I will have more to say but for right now all I will say is this..@JamesGunn is one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met. “He’s gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. He’s made mistakes. We all have. I’m NOT ok with what’s happening to him,” he wrote.
