Samsung To Unveil Bixby 2.0 Alongside Galaxy Note 9
Samsung Electronics, after launching Galaxy S9 and S9+, appears to be ready to rollout Bixby 2.0 when it will release the Galaxy Note 9. The release is said to be earlier than expected, DJ Koh, Samsung’s mobile division CEO, revealed during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
“For Bixby 1.0, we focused on a fast rollout to the market. Expanding the ecosystem was difficult. So Bixby 2.0 will strengthen this aspect and we are working intensely,” Koh said.
Samsung broke the news about Bixby 2.0, formerly a digital assistant transformed into an intelligence tool, some four months ago describing it as Bixby’s “bold reinvention.” The current beta version is undergoing tests with 800 partners.
It is likely that Bixby 2.0 can be released alongside the Galaxy Note 9. “In December last year, we began taking applications for the public beta version. So far 800 companies have applied and are testing it,” Koh said.
Unlike Bixby 1.0, which was more focused on fast release to the market depriving it the opportunity to expand its own ecosystem, Bixby 2.0 will explore the areas where its predecessor failed. Bixby 2.0, Koh explained, will “strengthen this aspect and we are working intensely.”
Bixby 2.0 will allow users to have more devices to be supported outside the smartphones. It is also expected to give the users more voice-recognition features so that it can give personalized responses.
Samsung is developing a technology that will enable Bixby to identify individual voices over multiple speakers so that it “won’t be tied to a specific device,” Eui-Suk Chung, Samsung executive vice president and head of software and artificial intelligence, said.
Bixby 2.0, it was previously reported, will enable ease of communication with Galaxy smartphones that will quickly execute the users’ command without the usual protocol of saying “Hi Bixby” prior to the command. The updated version is touted to offer a new level of interaction with AI tool, which will definitely eliminate the cumbersome process.
This innovation is expected to become a feature of other products of the company. Samsung has already revealed to rollout a Bixby-enabled TV and a Bixby speaker within the year.
