If you have been waiting for the next season of the runaway hit digital series Sacred Games with bated breath, here is the most exciting news for you. Netflix on Friday made an official announcement that the immensely popular series will be making a return with its second season.

Erik Barmack, the vice president of International Netflix Originals, said in a statement: “We’ve been thrilled by the response to Sacred Games from fans worldwide, and especially in India, to this high-quality production.” Talking to a premiere Hollywood website, he said, “It’s incredibly exciting for us to take the story of Sacred Games forward and open a new chapter in the series with its second season.”

Besides great storytelling and competent direction by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwani, what made Sacred Games an instant hit among audiences worldwide was exceptional performances by the entire cast, especially Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. So, thinking of Sacred Games 2 without these two powerhouses of talent will be sort of blasphemous. The makers have confirmed that the second season will have cop Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) and Mumbai kingpin Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). While Sartaj will try his best to save his city, Ganesh Gaitonde will go great lengths to retain his position as the don of Mumbai.

In Sacred Games, we all were also introduced to the third father (Pankaj Tripathi) of Gaitonde. While the first season had him for some fleeting moments, Sacred Games 2 will have him play a significant role.

Sacred Games was the first Indian Netflix original which went on to garner a stupendous response from the audience worldwide. Though the makers have not announced any premiere date for Sacred Games 2 as yet, insiders claim it is being readied for summer 2019. Vikramaditya Motwani is expected to begin the shoot by the end of the year. It will be shot in India and across various international locations as well.
