Rick and Morty Renewed for 70 More Episodes: What To Expect?
Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon’s hit and animated series Rick and Morty have been given a huge 70-episode order by Adult Swim on Thursday (May 10, 2018). The news of the renewal was announced by co-creators Roiland and Harmon in a video from Harmon’s shower.
The massive renewal of Rick and Morty is being termed by Adult Swim as a “long-term deal.” The renewal will take the episode count to 10, which is one more than the magic number considered for syndication. Even though there has been no mention for the timeframe for the 70 episodes, it is likely that the show will be aired for a long time to come as it has so far aired only 31 episodes in the past three seasons since 2013 when it was first aired.
Being one of the hottest and most loved animated shows on television, Rick and Morty are being compared to animated classics like South Park, Family Guy, and The Simpsons. Season 3 of this show was such a huge hit that Adult Swim enjoyed huge ratings. There were also widespread protests at McDonald’s restaurants across the country, and not to mention repeated quotes about pickle people. Here is a list of all that we know about Rick and Morty Season 4, possible premiere date, future seasons of Rick and Morty and what we can expect in the season 4 of this highly successful series.
Rick And Morty Season 4 Premiere Date
It is now clear that Rick and Morty Season 4 will happen, but there is no official date announced by Adult Swim as of yet. As per rumors and statements from the show’s staff, the work on the show is only beginning right now. Writer Ryan Ridley had in the past mentioned that the show would not premiere before 2019. He had said this on the basis of the time he took to write and animate Season 3, and with nobody to work on the series currently, the possibility of the Season 4 hitting the small screen on 2019 or on a later date is very high.
Previously, a few fans had noted that the character Mr. Poopybutthole (Justin Roiland), is sporting a Santa Claus beard. This gave way to speculations that Ricky and Morty Season 4 will premiere around Christmas 2018.
Rick and Morty Episode and Season Count
Episodes: It is interesting to note that the show has not been technically renewed for Season 4, but instead Adult Swim has just renewed the series for 70 episodes.
According to speculations, Season 4 is likely to feature the maximum episodes the series has seen in a single season until now. Rick and Morty Season 4 had between 10 and 11 episodes. Season three was expected to be 14 episodes but ended up at just 10. It is hence possible that the next Season will not have 70 episodes as decided.
Seasons: The initial goal of the creative team of the show was to produce 14 episodes for Season 3. However, that did not go as planned due to delays. According to Harmon, the team should be able to do at least 14 episodes in Season 4. If at all there are more episodes than that in Season 4, it will certainly affect the number of seasons the series will need before restructuring another renewal with Adult Swim.
Even though there is no news at the moment about what all fans would get to see in Rick and Morty Season 4, we can all be assured of a few more exciting episodes of this incredible animated series.
