Will Rockstar Release A PC Version For Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2)?
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released today, October 26, 2018 – 12:00 am for PS4 and Xbox One. Although it’s no doubt that RDR2 is going to be one of this year’s most popular games, there’s one question that’s been constantly plaguing gamers and fans: Is the game coming to PC?
The PC Release
So, is RDR2 PC version coming? Although Rockstar Games hasn’t announced the game for PC, based on what we’ve seen so far, the answer is most likely yes.
Firstly, last June, VG247 noticed a Rockstar programmer listed a PC version of RDR2 on their LinkedIn resume. The programmer’s name was kept a secret.
Secondly, last week, Swedish website Tech Tastic noticed a product listing from one of Europe’s largest retailers – Media Markt – for consumer electronics mentioning that the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on December 31, 2019 to which according to VG247 is a typical placeholder date for many retailers for a future announcement. But there’s also the possibility that the listing could be a mistake.
Lastly, releasing a PC version of a game after the console versions have launched isn’t a new tactic for Rockstar at all — according to Polygon. Take the GTA 5 for example. The game debuted on consoles (PS3 and Xbox 360) on September 2013. On June of 2014, the company announced that it would bring GTA 5 to PC and then released it on April 2015.
As for the other games, there’s GTA 4 (2008) which took almost 8 months to come to PC. There’s also L.A. Noire (2011) which came about six months.
So based on this three information (especially the third one), we can assume that Red Dead Redemption 2 will definitely come to the PC platform but it will be a waiting game. How long will fans have to wait? Well, it’s hard to say when comparing GTA 5’s PC release to GTA 4 and L.A. Noire.
What If It Doesn’t Come?
Well, there’s also a possibility that fans could just be waiting in vain. Take for example RDR2’s predecessor which was released in May of 2010 and didn’t get a PC version. This is what Rockstar had to say:
“We do know that, yes, there is just one title absent from our PC release plans — that game, of course, being Red Dead Redemption, and of course we’re well aware that some fans have been asking for it. All we can say is that whenever it is viable (technically, developmentally and business-wise) for us to release a game for PC (or any other particular platform) — we will and we usually do; unfortunately, that is just not the case 100% of the time for all platforms.“
But what do you think? Will there be an RDR2 PC version? If yes, how many months or years will it take? Tell us in the comment section below.
