Here's The Latest Buzz About Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Version and Red Dead Online
What’s up, Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) fans? Gather around because we got an update or rumor (whichever way you may take it) regarding RDR2’s PC version release. The piece of information we have today came straight from the mouth of Take Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick where he talks about Rockstar’s plans for “ongoing releases”.
Note: Take Two is Rockstar Games’ parent company.
Initial Reports Regarding RDR2’s PC Version Release
Last month, we published a report if whether RDR2 will come to the PC platform or not. Although the company hasn’t said that much about it, there were a few “clues” spotted here and there.
We pointed out a report from VG247 who noticed a Rockstar programmer listed a PC version of RDR2 on their LinkedIn resume. Unfortunately, the programmer’s name wasn’t revealed.
We also pointed out Swedish website Tech Tastic who reported a product listing made by Europe’s largest retailer when it comes to consumer electronics, Media Markt, mentioning that the PC version of RDR2 will be released on December 31, 2019. However, VG247 pointed out that the date mentioned is a typical placeholder date for many retailers for a future announcement so there’s a possibility that the listing could be a mistake.
Lastly, we quoted Polygon’s report pointing out that releasing a PC version of a game after the console versions have launched isn’t a new tactic for Rockstar at all. Take for example the GTA 5. It was released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 platform in 2013, while its PC version was announced on 2014 and released in 2015.
But of course, we also look at the possibility if there won’t be a PC release for the RDR2. Take the game’s very own predecessor – RDR. Since its release in 2010, it still hasn’t be ported over to the PC platform.
When asked about it, Rockstar Games published a statement on their official website:
“We do know that, yes, there is just one title absent from our PC release plans – that game, of course, being Red Dead Redemption, and of course we’re well aware that some fans have been asking for it. All we can say is that whenever it is viable (technically, developmentally and business-wise) for us to release a game for PC (or any other particular platform) – we will and we usually do; unfortunately, that is just not the case 100% of the time for all platforms.”
So, What Does Take Two’s CEO Had To Say About RDR2’s PC Release?
According to Express, the CEO was asked about RDR2’s coming to PC on a recent earnings call. The CEO said:
“In terms of ongoing releases, Rockstar will talk about what their intentions are going forward with regard to all upcoming products and that the same would hold true for the platform.”
“So, in this particular instance, I can’t really give you too much clarity, apologies.”
Express notes that although this would’ve been a perfect time to rule out an RDR2 PC release, it seems like the CEO is hinting that Rockstar could make a big announcement in the future.
What About Red Dead Redemption 2 Online (aka Red Dead Online)?
On the same recent earnings call, the CEO was also asked about RDR2 online. The CEO said:
“It’s way too early to talk about Red Dead Redemption 2 Online, it hasn’t released yet.”
“It will launch in public beta towards the end of the month, and Rockstar will have a lot more to say about it. We’re not making any current predictions.”
Last week, we published a report about Red Dead Online. Rockstar has confirmed that they will launch it on November 2018 as a public beta. As for the exact date, the company didn’t say. However, we noted a report from DailyStar speculating that it could be out on November 9 (We are very sorry that we wrote November 8. It was a typo).
