Makers Announce New Release Date For Rajinikanth & Akshay Kumar Starrer 2.0
If you have been waiting for Thalaiva Rajinikanth‘s hotly anticipated movie 2.0 for long, here is an exciting piece of news for all you fans. After being delayed for almost four times, the Shankar directorial has locked a new date for its theatrical release across the world. Also starring Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, the sci-fi movie will now hit the silver screen on 29th November 2018.
The new release date of the film was announced by director Shankar, who took to micro-blogging site Twitter to make the announcement. “Hi everyone.. at last the vfx companies promised the final delivery date of the vfx shots. The movie will release on nov 29th 2018,” read his tweet.
2.0 is a sequel to the Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Tamil sci-fi film Enthiran (2010). The movie was dubbed in many other languages as Robot and ran to packed houses across the country for several weeks. The earth-shattering success of Enthiran prompted makers to come up with a sequel. While megastar Rajinikanth was the obvious choice to headline the cast, Bollywood star Akshay was roped in to play the lead antagonist in 2.0. Aish was replaced by Amy Jackson in the second installment.

The shooting for 2.0 was wrapped up in October last year and the makers were gearing up to release it during Diwali on October 18, 2017. However, the post-production team, especially the VFX team, could not meet the deadline, leaving the makers with no choice except deferring the release. The next release date, which was announced by the producers, was 25th January 2018. But much to the chagrin of the makers and viewers alike, the movie failed to show up in theatres again.
Later it was shifted to 14th April 2018 followed by 27th April 2018, but due to inordinate delay in post-production work, 2.0 could not enter cinemas again. Currently, over 15 studios from across the globe are working on different portions to complete the movie on the new deadline. We wish the makers don’t push the film further.
