PS4's Biggest JRPG Coming To PlayStation 5 (PS5) Platform
Sony’s next-gen hardware, PlayStation 5 (PS5), is expected to have a series of amazing games on its platform. In fact, the successor of the wildly successful role-playing game Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Exclusive Age by Square Enix is rumored to be a PS5 title.
According to DailyStar, Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii spoke at the computer entertainment developers conference in Japan earlier this month. He was asked regarding the status of Dragon Quest XII.
“How is the 12th entry going?”
“I actually already came up with the keywords, but I can’t say anything here,” and added, “However, since Dragon Quest XI‘s scenario was well-received, this time I want the same reception for the gameplay systems, but I could also surprise everyone and make it an epic. Now I just feel like teasing everyone.”
On Metacritic, Dragon Quest XI has a Metascore of 86 points based on 83 critics and an 8.8 user score based on 523 ratings. Meanwhile, IGN gave it 8.8/10 score. Lastly, Gamespot gave it a superb 9/10 score.
Continuing on with Horii’s response:
“I keep absentmindedly thinking about making the theme the feeling of ‘wanting to make dreams come true.”
And then finished it off by saying Dragon Quest XII is “still many years away.”
So It’s A PS5 Game?
DailyStar notes that Dragon Quest games are normally spaced out with a 4-year gap between each game (putting aside spin-offs and remakes). With that, Dragon Quest XII is speculated to launch around 2021.
As for the PS5, rumors suggest that it could be announced in 2019. In fact, last month, a Reddit user who goes by the name RuthenicCookie that there will be an initial reveal in the middle of 2019 and will be followed by a full reveal through a PlayStation Experience (PSX) 2019 event. The release date could be either in March or November of 2020.
