PS5 Update: Sony Hiring A Gameplay Programmer For Alleged PlayStation 5 Games
Sony is recently posted a job listing wherein it’s looking for a Senior Staff Gameplay Programmer who will be in-charge for the next gaming console. With that being said, it appears that the Japanese tech company is confirming the existence of the PlayStation 5 (PS5).
According to the job listing, the successful applicant must have “Next Gen game console experience”. Apart from that, the candidate must have a “strong understanding and familiarity with current UNREAL technology”.
Why Is This PS5 Update Exciting?
There are three reasons why this news is exciting for the ones waiting for the PS5 Release. Here are they:
With these qualifications, it seems to confirm that the studio is possibly looking to produce video games for its “Next Gen game console”. Also, considering that Sony owns Bend, the said gaming console might be the PS5 or the recently rumored 5G PlayStation Portable. It can be recalled that Bend is the studio behind former Sony-exclusives like the Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Syphon Filter.
Secondly, the phrasing on the said job listing specifies that a next-generation console, which is possibly in the form of a dev kit is currently existing. This is because the job listing is asking for applicants who currently have “Next Gen game console” experience. How could they have that indicated experience except the hardware is already existent in some form? Certainly, that next-gen console experience might not be obtained with a PS5 dev kit. But if that’s not the case, then it certainly has come from Nintendo Switch 2 or Xbox Two.
Lastly, the job posting puts an emphasis on candidates needing a “strong understanding” of “UNREAL technology”. It’s worth noting that this job listing was released weeks after Epic Games, released a sequence of videos showcasing its next-gen Unreal Engine 4 at GDC 2018. This only suggests that PlayStation 5 games, which are being worked on by Bend will likely utilize that engine and will look spectacular.
PS5 Release Date
The timing of this job listing from the Japanese tech giant also seems to shed some light regarding the PS5 release date. It is supposed and is being widely suggested that the much-anticipated console will land in 2020. But then, Sony hasn’t confirmed this yet.
