Rumor: PlayStation 5 To Launch Next Year, Hints Dev Kits
Recent speculations reveal that the PlayStation 5 dev kits are already in the hands of developers. In case this is proven to be true, Sony fans might see the upcoming console from the Japanese tech giant as early as next year and a teaser might be seen during this year’s E3 in June.
Where This Rumor Came?
The rumor that’s currently surfacing all over the wire came from an industry insider named Marcus Sellars. Different from many internet leakers, Sellars has a pretty firm track record. As a matter of fact, he has precisely foreseen the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the date of the upcoming Nintendo Direct, and of course the Diablo III Switch port. According to this leaker, the PS5 dev kits are currently in the hands of the third-party developers.

What is a Dev Kit?
For some reference, a dev kit, or development kit, is a functioning prototype of an upcoming console. It is usually a PC modded to run in the same way to the new console is anticipated to run. Also, there are times that it can be similar to what the final product will essentially look like.
Moreover, it is worth mentioning that Sellars explicitly calls out third-party developers, because the Japanese tech giant would perhaps send dev kits to outside studios. This is after the Sony-owned companies already had the chance to work with the said hardware.
PlayStation 5 Release Date
With this rumor from Sellars, a 2019 launch for the PS5 is in line with the previous speculations. As a matter of fact, a Japanese outlet has projected a late 2019 or early 2020 launch date for the PS5 last year. This expectation was grounded on the processor chip readiness.
