New iPhone X Plus to Start at $1200; Analyst Predict More Expensive Apple Smartphones in 2018
Apple is expected to release three new smartphones this year, and the company could push past the $1,000 price limit with the upcoming iPhone X Plus. While there are reports that sales of the iPhone X have slowed, an analyst has predicted that the Cupertino-based tech giant could set a new sales record with the launch of the latest iPhone models in the coming months.
Apple has not revealed its plans for the next generation of iPhones. However, there are rumors that the new devices will come packed with lots of upgrades including bigger screens, OLED technology, larger batteries, Touch ID, and more.
When Apple released the iPhone X in November 2017 for $1,000, many analysts predicted that the company would struggle to move units. Now, with the upcoming release of the new iPhone X and iPhone X Plus, there are rumors that Apple will revise its pricing strategy.
According to Forbes, KGCI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated that the new iPhone X will maintain the $1,000 price tag. There is also a possibility that Apple could slash the price of the device to about $700 to $800 to make way for the iPhone X Plus. While the new iPhone X will reportedly be aimed at the mid-range to low-end market, the iPhone X Plus is for the high-end market. Kuo also revealed that the iPhone X Plus would go for about $1,200 to $1,350. Meanwhile, the iPhone SE 2 will cost more than twice as much as its predecessor with a price tag of about $700 to $800.
If this turns out to be true, it is indeed a bold move by Apple considering reports about the sluggish sales of the iPhone X after flying high for about four months. Perhaps, the company is banking on the fact that many iPhone users are anticipated to upgrade their devices this year.
According to Fortune, GBH Insights analyst Daniel Ives forecasts that up to 350 million iPhones will be upgraded this year. He further noted that this record sale would lift Apple’s market value to hit the $1 trillion mark. It remains to be seen if this will happen.
There is still no indication from Apple of when the latest iPhones will hit the market. The company is expected to release the smartphones sometime in the first half of the year.
