Mock-Up Video Features 2018 iPhone Dummy Models And Compares Them To Current-Gen iPhone Models
A video was posted on YouTube featuring three 2018 iPhone 3D dummy units. The video reveals what is expected to be the final designs of the upcoming 2018 lineup from Apple while comparing it to the current-generation iPhone X along with other phones as well. Furthermore, find out more about other rumored upcoming iPhones.
The dummy iPhones were bought by Mac Otakara at Alibaba. The first dummy model featured on the video was “iPhone 5.8 OLD mock-up” which measured 143.65mm x 72.03mm x 7.69mm. Comparing it to the current-gen iPhone X, it seems to be nearly identical.
The second dummy model was “iPhone 6.4 OLD mock-up” which measures up to 157.53mm x 77.44mm x 7.85mm. Otaka pointed out that its “bottom hole is not symmetrical” (it is unclear if was due to the result of poor workmanship). Comparing it to the iPhone 8 Plus, the sizes are identical.
The third and final dummy model was “iPhone 6.0 LCD Mock-up” which measures 150.91mm x 75.72mm x 8.47mm. Otakara notes that its SIM tray is on the bottom side and its rear camera is slightly bigger than the iPhone 7.
So What Are The Exact Names?
Given that the video only mentioned iPhone 5.8, iPhone 6.4 and iPhone 6.0, people are left confused which model is which. In fact, if you go search for articles right now, some even tells a different story, citing whatever source they came across with, while other sites cite many sources only to leave the readers confused. However, the popular belief is that the company will be releasing three iPhone models.
For this article, the source material comes from Mac World. According to the article, the models could be:
- The 5.8-inch OLED model is the iPhone 11 or XI.
- The 6.5-inch OLED model is the iPhone X Plus or XI Plus.
- The 6.1-inch LCD model is iPhone 9, which is the cheaper alternative which starts at a price of around $700. It is reported to feature Face ID but not 3D Touch.
What About The Other Rumored Upcoming iPhones?
According to an article at Trusted Reviews, there is an iPhone model called iPhone 9 which could also be referred to as iPhone 8S. As for its screen size, the article didn’t specify but suggested that it could come with an OLED screen.
It was reported that an 18-watt USB-C fast charger will come along inside the box of the iPhone 9. In regards to its release, the article suggests that the reveal will be on September 11 or 12 and then will be released on September 21 – this is of course if Apple doesn’t throw a curveball that could completely switch up the schedule.
Another model is the iPhone SE2. Regarding its release, it is expected to be unveiled this September, but well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the said device won’t be coming this year because Apple may have already used up its development resources this year due to its 3 upcoming iPhone models.
For its design, it is reported that the iPhone SE2 will look more like the iPhone 8, but may have different dimensions. Another report also suggested that it will have a similar design to the current iPhone SE and it will have a larger 4.2-inch display.
So how many iPhones do you think Apple will release this year? Will it only be the iPhone X Plus (or XI Plus), iPhone 11 (or XI) and the 6.1-inch iPhone? Also, did we miss any rumored iPhone names? We would like to hear from you in the comment section below.
