Mel Gibson and Colin Farrell are the talents to join the cast of Dead Snow (2009) filmmaker Tommy Wirkola’s forthcoming revenge thriller, titled War Pigs. War Pigs is set against the backdrop of World War II and promises to offer a high octane dose of action and entertainment upon its theatrical release. Initially planned as The Takedown, the project is being made under the banner of Millennium Films.

War Pigs is the brainchild of Tommy Wirkola, and hence he does not want to leave any stone unturned to make it as one of the finest films in wartime. Wirkola directs it from a script written by Nick Ball and John Niven. Coming to the star cast, Colin Farrell has been roped in to play the role of Drex, while Gibson joins the cast to play the role of The Pastor in the movie. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian of di Bonaventura Productions will bankroll the project in association with Matt Berenson.

Talking about the storyline of War Pigs, it revolves around a group of disillusioned ex-marines who go on one last mission to avenge the murder of one of their comrades. By the looks of it, War Pigs sounds like a down-and-dirty thriller. It is expected to mount the shooting floor in October.

Apart from War Pigs, Gibson is also gearing himself up to helm Destroyer, a World War II naval war movie from Hollywood Gang Productions. It will be his follow-up to Hacksaw Ridge, the 2016 war drama that brought him back to the director’s chair. Farrell has just wrapped up Steve McQueen’s next directorial Widows and the Tim Burton-helmed movie Dumbo. He also stars in an upcoming Amazon miniseries as Oliver North.

Farrell, on the other hand, is popular for his performance in Harry Potter film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and The Lobster (2015). Saving Mr. Banks (2013), The Beguiled (2017) and The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) are some of his other notable offerings.
