Come April and the entire city of New York will turn into a battleground for one of the biggest battles the Marvel Universe has ever witnessed. Do you have no idea what are we talking about? Let’s explain. Marvel Entertainment has just dropped the teaser trailer of their epic crossover event, War of the Realms, the event storyline set for a grand launch in April 2019. The teaser trailer features Aaron and Thor.

In a plot taken from the Thor comic book series, War of the Realms sees dark elf Malekith attacking Earth as the last staging ground for a war that has seen him annihilate the other mythical realms known to Thor and his fellow Asgardians. Now the question is: will all of the heroes of Earthrise to the occasion to save the day? It will be quite interesting to see.

“The story really begins when that war that has been brewing for years in the pages of Thor explodes here in Midgard,” says writer Jason Aaron, referencing the Asgardian term for Earth. He goes on to add, “And at that point, it is bigger than just a Thor battle: everyone becomes a part of that battle.”

Editor Will Moss adds that, despite the years-long build-up in a number of different comics by this point, Aaron writes reader-friendly comics. He also says that readers won’t have to get caught up on year’s worth of Thor and Avengers comics to know what’s going on in War of the Realms. “Even though this story involves a lot of different moving pieces and elements from the Thor comics and the Avengers comics, it’s something that everyone can just dive into,” he says.

War of the Realms is being described by Marvel Entertainment as the “war-to-end-all-wars,” and promoting it with the line, “Not since Secret Wars has a comic event had such far-reaching consequences for the Marvel Universe.” The series comes out in April, next year.
