2019 Mac Pro: What To Expect And What Fans Want To See
It’s been years since Apple released the Mac Pro and fans have been asking for a successor. Will this finally be the year that the Cupertino-based tech company updates it? Let’s review everything we know so far about the 2019 Mac Pro.
When Is It Coming?
According to a 2018 report, Apple’s senior director of Mac Hardware Product Marketing Tom Boger confirmed that the new Mac Pro will be a 2019 product. He said:
“We want to be transparent and communicate openly with our pro community, so we want them to know that the Mac Pro is a 2019 product. It’s not something for this year.”
As for when exactly it is coming, that’s unknown. For now, all we have is the announcement and release date of the current 2013 Mac Pro.
The 2013 Mac Pro debuted at the June 2013 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) and then was released on December 2013. However, as TechRadar noted, many purchasers didn’t get their computers until April 2014 on account of backorders.
It’s Intended For Artists And Technicians?
According to a report, the 2019 Mac Pro is going to be very focused on artists and technicians that Apple even hired a group of creative professionals to see how they used both the hardware and software behind it. In fact, Apple’s VP of Hardware Engineering John Ternus even told TechCrunch back in 2018 that they’ve been focusing on visual effects, video editing, 3D animation, and music production.
It Will Be A Modular Device?
The 2019 Mac Pro is reportedly going to be a “Modular Device”. Apparently, its design will be easy to manage, upgrade and set up in different configurations.
Will It Be Matched With An Apple-created Display?
Back in 2017, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller said that since the Mac Pro is a modular system, they are also going to do a Pro display. In fact, back in November 2018, rumors of a new Apple desktop monitor came to the attention of tech enthusiasts.
Will Come With A New Design?
Given that the 2019 Mac Pro will be a modular device, it comes to no surprise that there are speculations that it will have some changes to its design. But will the changes be drastic or just some few changes here and there? That we don’t know.
However, perhaps the 2018 Mac mini can provide us with some clues. Before the 2018 Mac mini was released, its last update was way back in 2014. The 2018 model featured a similar design compared to the old model but with some few changes.
For its co-processor system, the Mac Pro 2019 is rumored to have the same T2 chip found in the iMac Pro and MacBook Pro. Meanwhile, for the actual processor, it will probably come with the 9th generation Intel Xeon processors.
What Fans Want To See
Just like any other upcoming device that has a predecessor, there will be a few things that fans would like to see on the successor. For the upcoming Mac Pro, these features are:
- More Internal Expansion
- Dual-processor options
- Mouse and keyboard included
- iOS apps
