Mac Mini 2018 News: Should Apple Kill It or Keep It?
It has been almost four years since the Cupertino-based tech company has made a major overhaul to its Mac Mini. While many fans are thinking that Apple’s silence about the device means they’ will never see a follow-up, some are still clinging to the hope and possibility that Mac Mini 2018 will surface at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2018).
According to TechRadar, the existing version of the smallest and the most affordable Mac was presented way back October 2014. This powerful device has been unchanged since then. Now that there’s a chance that Apple might keep it or kill it, let’s walk through the reasons why the Cupertino-based tech giant should choose the former or the latter.
Case of Killing Mac Mini
Regardless of a dedicated following, this $499 desktop computer has suffered from a primeval fourth-gen Intel Core i5 for almost 4 years now. Apple’s announcements on the Mini’s destiny since then have been guarded at best. With that, there are fans feeling that the tech company would perhaps favor that its patrons just purchase iPad and keyboard and case combo at this price. Aside from that, there’s also a possibility of stepping up into a MacBook as an alternative.
Case for keeping Mac Mini
At the very least, the Mini necessitates a current-generation Intel processor that can be considered to be more than an also-ran despite that the still-popular MacBook Air is armed with a fifth-gen Intel CPU that’s only a little bit newer. With that being said, it would be really cool to see Apple pull an Apple, and go for a total redesign. It could either go classy, with a Cupertino deal with the Hades Canyon, or it could go even smaller than ever.
For instance, can you imagine a Mac desktop that wasn’t much bigger than an Apple TV box? That’s the way that other PC competitors and manufacturers have gone in recent years.
As of now Apple hasn’t revealed yet if we’re going to see Mac Mini 2018 during the WWDC. But one thing is for sure, as the company’s event nears, more details about it will surface, so stay tuned!
