Luke Evans Joins Forces With Roland Emmerich For WWII Naval Action Flick Midway
Actor Luke Evans, whose repertoire boasts of some incredible movies like The Three Musketeers (2011), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) and Beauty and the Beast (2017), to name a few, has teamed up with renowned filmmaker Roland Emmerich for his next directorial, Midway. Also featuring Mandy Moore and Woody Harrelson in prominent roles, the big-ticket movie is inspired from true events of the Battle of Midway.
The World War II naval action movie will see Evans, a Welsh actor, in the role of Lieutenant Commander Wade McClusky, who launched a crucial aerial attack that led to the sinking of two of Japan’s fleet carriers in the famed 1942 Battle of Midway. The attack took place six months after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, and is considered a turning point in America’s battle against the country. Evans’ co-star Harrelson has been roped into the essay the character of Admiral Chester Nimitz, the commander of the Pacific Fleet during the war, who eventually recounted the bravery of McClusky.
Apart from calling the shots, Roland Emmerich, who is known for his disaster films such as Independence Day (1996), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), and Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), is producing Midway with Mark Gordon and longtime partner Harald Kloser. The movie has been written by famous writer Wes Tooke.
Midway, scheduled to be shot in Montreal, will be bankrolled by Starlight Entertainment Group and Providence Entertainment Limited, while Lionsgate has joined hands with the makers to distribute it domestically via its Summit Entertainment banner. Leading Chinese production company Bona Film Group will distribute the movie in China.
Talking about Luke Evans’ other upcoming projects, the actor is currently shooting a digital series titled Murder Mystery. Co-starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, the series is being bankrolled by streaming media giant, Netflix.
