Legendary Entertainment Gears Up To Give 'Gundam' The Live Action Movie Treatment
It seems to be a season of Anime adaptations in Hollywood. Not one or two, but over a dozen old classic animation movies are in the process of getting a live action treatment. After Ghost In The Shell hitting theatres last year and the likes of Alita: Battle Angel, The Lion King, Aladdin, Dumbo, Lady In The Trap, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, The Sword In The Stone, Prince Charming, Tinker Bell, Night On Bald Mountain and Oliver Twist, among others, opening in cinemas in near future, now yet another animation movie is gearing up to get revamped as a live action movie.
We are talking about science fiction media franchise Gundam, which was created by Sunrise and has quite the legacy. The movie features huge robots called mobile suits bearing the name Gundam.
The project was recently announced at Anime Expo. Sunrise President & CEO Yasuo Miyakawa revealed that the Mobile Suit Gundam series will be remade as a live-action movie. It will be a collaboration between Legendary Pictures and Sunrise and the work on the project has already commenced.
Well, if you thought that this is the first time when Gundam is being attempted as a live-action film, think again! Attempts to make it as a live-action movie have been made many times in the past. However, the only time when the makers succeeded in turning it into a well-made live-action flick was in the recent Ready Player One from earlier this year. While Ready Player One featured of a mecha cameo, the new movie will aim only on the Mobile Suit Gundam property.
As of now, little to nothing is known about the forthcoming project. There is no confirmation on who is going to don a director’s hat to helm the movie. The makers have also not announced any release window for the flick. We can soon expect an official announcement regarding the director and release date.
