Is Microsoft Surface Phone Finally Coming As Windows Phone Stocks Zero Out?
Last year, Microsoft officially confirmed the demise of the Windows phone lineup – a news which many believe were inevitable. However, despite the disheartening turn of events, the legendary OS maker still opted to sell what little that remained of their doomed handsets.
Just recently, the final batch of their Windows phone models finally disappeared from their online store. These now defunct models include the HP Elite x3 and the Alcatel Idol 4s – all sold for staggeringly discounted prices.
Though yet again Microsoft failed in another venture aimed at the mobile industry, the tech mogul isn’t stopping here. Now that the last stocks of the Windows phone have been exhausted, Microsoft is now said to be turning their attention towards a new endeavor, albeit still slated for the same market – the Surface Phone.
As you all know, the Surface Phone is part of Microsoft’s new initiative ‘Project Andromeda,’ which deals with the development of a versatile, foldable handset. This device is said to run Microsoft’s very own operating system, the Windows Core OS -based on their current PC system Windows 10. In addition to this, Microsoft has also publicly released a new patent hinting at a new modular technology called ‘magnetic block locking,’ which, hearsays claim, will debut on the Surface Phone.
As of now, there’s still no indication whether Microsoft has indeed started work on the much-speculated surface phone. But it’s still important to note that it’s a possibility.
For those hoping to get their hands on the last Windows phone models (for reasons still unknown), there might still be a chance for you. Microsoft recommends visiting third-party vendors and official physical stores as they might still have some stocks left.
Overall, it still leaves a bad taste in the mouth to see familiar technology retire too soon. But, as they say, when one door closes another one opens. It might be the final show for the Windows phone but certainly, Microsoft isn’t losing faith in its ability to provide a new experience to its loyal patrons.
We also hope that with this new passion project, the Surface Phone, Microsoft could pull itself back together and deliver something that no one has ever seen before.
