Is The iPhone XE True Successor Of The iPhone SE... Rumored iPhone SE2?
Although it seems unlikely that Apple will release a “true” successor for the iPhone SE, that hasn’t stopped reports from popping out once a while about an iPhone SE2. And recently, new to the scene is the iPhone XE.
Apple Will Release Three iPhones This Year
If we look at the 2018 iPhone lineup (iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR), many would assume that Apple will release the same number of models this year.
According to a report published earlier this month, Apple will supposedly discontinue the iPhone XR line due to its poor performance in the market. With that, this year, we will instead have iPhone XE, iPhone XI, and iPhone XI Plus which will hit the market in Q3 2019 presumably in September.
But Is Their Really An iPhone XE?
Earlier this year, well-known and reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a note that an iPhone SE 2 isn’t currently on Apple’s roadmap.
Whether this rumored iPhone XE will be released or not this year, all we can do is continue playing the waiting game until more details are revealed.
But What If The iPhone XE Isn’t Actually The iPhone SE 2 And Is Instead A Different Model?
Quite possible, especially if we look at the 2018 iPhone models. There was the iPhone XR which was labeled as the “budget iPhone model” which costs $749 for its 64GB model, $799 for the 128GB, and $899 for 256GB.
However, reports have said that the iPhone XE will reportedly sport an edge to edge 4.8-inch OLED display. The iPhone SE sported a 4-inch LCD display but featured thick bezels. With that, it seems like this iPhone XE will feature a pocketable size which is close or perhaps exactly the same as the iPhone SE.
As for the iPhone XE’s price tag, it’s rumored to cost anywhere from $600 to $800. Compared that to the original iPhone SE, it launched with a price tag of $399 for the 16GB model and $449 for its 64GB model.
Regarding the iPhone XR, there was also a rumor back in February claiming that the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR are getting successors. The report even noted that the next iPhone XR will have a wider notch than the successor to the XS Max.
The way we see it, it’s really hard to tell which rumor to believe in. All we can do is indeed wait for more details to be revealed or an official announcement from Apple.
