Hopes Still Alive For iPhone SE2, Apple Working On Device Code Named Hangzhou
Apple has finally launched its new iPad Pro models, MacBook Air, and Mac mini along with other accessories during the recent October event. However, there’s one question that’s been plaguing tech enthusiasts: Where is the iPhone SE2?
Don’t Expect For It This Year
March has passed, the September iPhone event has also passed, and now the October event has passed as well. There still has been no sign of the iPhone SE2. But some of its fans are still hoping that it would appear.
Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that Apple will release three iPhones this year – one of them will be a cheaper iPhone or budget model. The only problem was that it would be a 6.1-inch model with an LCD screen and that it would be priced much higher than the iPhone SE (currently priced at $399 for 32GB and $499 for 129GB) – this turned out to be the iPhone XR. However, please note that the original iPhone SE model discontinued in September.
As a matter of fact, earlier this year, Kuo also noted that Apple has “used up its development resources” and would not be able to produce a new SE for the spring 2018 launch window. This was to counter the rumors suggesting that the iPhone SE 2 will be released in March of 2018.
Who Is The True “Budget iPhone Model”?
Before the iPhone XR was officially announced, there were already debates among tech enthusiasts if the iPhone SE will be replaced by the iPhone XR as the “budget iPhone model” which was rumored to cost between $600 and $700 – it is currently reported to cost at a starting price of $749. Of course, not many agreed with this considering the price tag of the iPhone SE.
But then again, Apple isn’t known for cheap prices, right?
So There’s No iPhone SE 2?
This is where it makes things complicated. MacWorld noted Chinese site Economic Daily regarding an upcoming iPhone. The report says that Apple is working on a low-end iPhone codenamed “Hangzhou”.
Given that it was referred to as a “low-end” device, it’s also expected to feature a cheap price tag, though the article didn’t say how much exactly. All we know is that it was designed to “seize the low-end market” in China and India. As for when it will be released, the article didn’t say as well.
Back in March, there was a leaked photo of the iPhone SE 2 posted on SlashLeaks. At the moment, the photo features a “Trust Score” of 22 percent.
A few months later, this time around, alleged screen protectors were spotted. The one on the left was for the iPhone SE 2, while the other was for the iPhone X.

So, When Can We Expect The iPhone SE 2?
Based on the information we know so far, assuming that the iPhone XR is the successor of the iPhone SE, we can assume that there won’t be an iPhone SE 2 coming this year. At the moment, all we can do wait and see what will happen in 2019.
What can you say about the information written in this article? Will, there be an iPhone SE 2 next year, or has it really been replaced by the iPhone XR? Also, what about the “low-end” iPhone codenamed as Hangzhou? Share us your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below.
