The tech giant Apple will unveil the successor to the current iPhone X with the Plus version and the low-cost LCD iPhone X-style phone on Sept. 12. However, how about the successor to the smaller, cheaper iPhone SE? Reports are on and then off again and have become cyclic about the iPhone SE2 release date. Until now, there is still no clear information on when.

According to TechRadar, the company hinted to release a more affordable, new iPhone along with the two flagship variants this month. This handset will possibly be called the iPhone 9 and look more like the current iPhone X than the iPhone SE released 2016. What makes it interesting is this affordable but not cheap iPhone will boost a huge spec upgrade over the predecessor.

This report gives high hopes for the possible iPhone SE 2018 release. Another report suggested that the device might enter mass production in the first quarter of this year just in time for a September launch. Meanwhile, other reports from tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and the case maker Olixar do not believe that the company is capable to make the device this year.

When it comes to pricing, the iPhone SE2 is believed to cost at around $450 (£349 or AU$549) since the predecessor started at $399 (£379 or AU$679) for the 16GB variant and $349 (£349 or AU$549) for the 32GB storage variant. So, this device should be cheap in comparison with the rest of the iPhone lineup.

The iPhone SE2 is expected to feature an iPhone X-like screen with a small notch at the top making it a smaller iPhone with a large display. The dual cameras on the rear are the same in the current iPhone X and might have 12 megapixels. Then, there will offer a 5-megapixel selfie camera, 2GB of RAM, a glass back, wireless charging, and a quad-core A10 chipset. However, there will be no longer the home button and headphone port.
