iPhone 11 / 2019 iPhone: Face ID Upgrade, Better Waterproof Feature And Taptic Engine
Apple is no doubt one of the most recognizable tech companies in the world which is why it comes to no surprise that people, especially tech enthusiasts, are always on the lookout for new exciting rumors, leaks and official talks about the company’s upcoming devices.
For this year, we have the highly-anticipated iPhone 11 (aka 2019 iPhone) which is expected to come in the second half of this year. Although it’s still quite a few months before its release, we’ve already been hearing some details about it.
What details? Well, apparently, Apple wants to wants to revamp Face ID in upcoming iPhones.
The Face ID Upgrade
According to a report, Apple is looking to upgrade Face ID in its upcoming phones and devices. As a matter of fact, the Cupertino-based company has even acquired patents of an AI security camera, Lighthouse.
Among the patents acquired, a large portion of them involves in dealing with the use of computer vision to scan and recognize faces. This is return made reports believe that Apple could be looking to upgrade their Face ID feature.
So Will The iPhone 11 Have These Feature?
Although the report says “upcoming iPhones“, it’s unclear whether the iPhone 11 will come with an upgraded Face ID feature or a different future iPhone. Add into the fact that patents don’t usually serve as a 100 percent guarantee that the concept design will be featured on a future product, it’s really hard to say.
Earlier this week we published an article about a YouTube channel called EverythingApplePro sharing some exclusive leaks/details regarding the upcoming Apple products which came from Max Weinbach, XDA TV host, and writer for XDA Portal. One of the devices mentioned was the iPhone 11.
Regarding the iPhone 11 or future iPhones, one of the details he mentioned about the said device:
“Apple is working on iPhones that work completely underwater,” and continued, “Apple is working on a display that can recognize your fingers even though it is completely surrounded by liquid.”
On the video, he also featured an article from AppleInsider dated back in October 2018. The article details about Apple working on an iPhone that works better in rain. The Apple patents mentioned in the article were both titled “Finger tracking in the wet environment“.
Aside from the waterproof feature, the iPhone 11 or a future iPhone may come with a better “taptic” engine as well. As reported by Forbes:
“…it will be expanded to cover a 3×3 grid across the new iPhone’s entire display as well as adding more precise vibrations so input response is more tactile on every part of the screen.“
With this, it will in return enable the new iPhone to offer a far richer physical feedback to taps and gestures. Moreover, as Forbes suggests, it seems ripe for integration with third-party apps, especially when it comes to games.
When Can We Expect The iPhone 11?
If we’re going to base it on the release dates of the previous models, Apple will likely present the iPhone 11 this September. But of course, there’s always the possibility that the Cupertino-based tech company can decide to do it on another date.
TechRadar even published a report about the possible release dates of the iPhone 11:
- Launch date — September 10, 2019
- Pre-order date — September 13, 2019
- Release date — September 20, 2019
