Ming-Chi Kuo Predicts About iPad Mini 5, iPad Pro, Mac Mini 2 and Other Things Coming This October and Next Year
The tech giant Apple is set to host their big October 30th event, which is just one week away from now. Nothing can stop the reliable Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities from his newsworthy predictions about what the company will introduce during the said event as well as other details on other products for the end of this year or early 2019.
According to MacRumors, Kuo said that two new iPad Pro 2018 models will be equipped with improved displays, USB Type-C ports, and a redesigned Apple Pencil. All of these features were previously reported for these iPad Pro 3 models. These devices will also feature edge-to-edge screens and Face ID technology instead of Touch ID without the Home button.
A new version of the iPad mini presumably iPad Mini 5 will have an upgraded processor and a low-cost panel. Other reports suggest that the fifth-generation iPad mini will not have an update this yet but will debut at the company’s next spring event. The device has not been updated in several years now since the iPad mini 4 was released in the fall of 2015.
However, Kuo is not sure yet if the company will announce iPad Mini 5 during the event or sometime later this year or early next year. If ever this revamped device is in the works, it would make sense to launch it alongside the iPad Pro 3. The revised device will come with a 7.9-inch screen, speed improvements, and no major redesign making it also fit for next year.
Kuo also mentioned a new low-cost notebook and updates to the MacBook, iMac, and Mac mini. These updates are still not clear as of now. A low-cost MacBook Air refresh or redesign has been speculated to be coming as well since March. The iMac 5K will get a higher-performance display. Then, the Mac mini 2 will improve with a “professional” upgrade. Its details are still unknown
Even if there is no official specific plan from the company, Kuo said that the new AirPods and the AirPower might be introduced either late in the fourth quarter or early in the first quarter of 2019. An upgraded wireless charging case for AirPods 2 will function well with the AirPower together with a new wireless chip capable of “Hey Siri” functionality.
Meanwhile, the special wireless charging mat AirPower can charge three devices at once like an iPhone, the AirPods, and the Apple Watch. This device was unveiled in September 2017 as a preview of hardware to come sometime this year. It is yet to receive its price as well. Its launch is also rumored based on supply chain sources.
In terms of their October event, the company will host in New York City instead of Cupertino. It will be held earlier in the day than normal on Tuesday, October 30 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The company will also provide the event’s live stream on its event website and through the Events app on the Apple TV.
