Where is iPad Mini 5, iMac 2018, AirPower, AirPods 2 and Mac Pro?

2:06 PM

Apple has finally revealed the devices on their “There’s more in the making event”. We have the new iPad Pro models, the MacBook Air, and the Mac mini.

However, there were Apple devices that were rumored to be featured on the event that didn’t show up. What are these devices? Let’s review them.

iMac 2018

There have been rumors suggesting that an iMac 2018 will be coming this year. Although there weren’t that many details about it, according to well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this year’s iMac will come with an upgraded processor and a “significant display performance upgrade.”

iPad Mini 5

Another Apple device that was expected to show up on the event is the iPad mini 5. However, we (73Buzz) didn’t really expect much of this. In fact, we made a report regarding its release just a few weeks ago. And on our report, we noted Kuo and MacWorld.

According to Kuo, one of the reasons why Apple chose not to release a new iPad mini is because it has been replaced by large-screen smartphones. The iPad Mini 4 features a 7.9-inch display, while smartphones like Google Pixel 3 (6.3 inches) or Samsung Galaxy S9+ (6.2 inches). He also revealed that there was strong demand for the low-priced 9.7-inch iPad in 2017.

As for MacWorld, they noted a Digitimes report indicating that Apple has no further plans for the iPad mini series. However, the Cupertino-based tech company will still continue the currently available model – iPad mini 4 – which was released back in September of 2015 with an introductory price of $399 USD.

AirPower and AirPods 2

There were rumors that Apple might debut the AirPower and AirPods 2 on the October event. According to MacRumors, these two devices may not be seen until sometime in 2019.

Although we don’t know much about the AirPower, we do know a few things about the AirPods 2. With the Apple earpiece, it is reportedly coming next year – presumably on March of 2019. However, we won’t deny that we were at least expecting it to be mentioned in this year’s October event.

Mac Pro

Not to be confused as the MacBook Pro or iMac Pro, the Mac Pro is a high-end desktop model built for power and performance. This is another device that we (73Buzz) weren’t expecting to be featured on the October event.

Back in April of 2018, Apple’s Senior Director of Mac Hardware Product Marketing Tom Boger confirmed that the Mac Pro is a 2019 product and is not something for this year. So with the 2018 October event, we had little hope with it being featured at the event.

iPhone XR Cases and iPad Smart Covers

Until now we’re still wondering why Apple hasn’t introduced cases for the iPhone XR. The company has already mentioned special clear cases for the device.

Another accessory that’s not been introduced is the new Smart Covers. The company launched its 2018 iPad Pro models along with new Smart Folio options and the new Smart Keyboard Folio, so we couldn’t help but wonder why it wasn’t present.

But What If Apple Will Throw A Curve Ball?

Last July, the Cupertino made a surprise release with the MacBook Pro 2018. It was initially expected to be unveiled during the WWDC 2018.  What we’re trying to say is that perhaps Apple could pull the same trick with one of the products listed on this article.

But what do you think? Tell us in the comment section below.
