iOS 11 Jailbreak Update: Saurik Doesn’t Reveal Release Date For Cydia At SpartaHack IV Hackathon
SpartaHack is a small hackathon that is organized by the Michigan State University and is joined by around 30-40 coders and programmers. Unluckily, during the said event, Saurik didn’t publicize the release of Cydia for iOS 11 jailbreak.
It has been previously reported that Jay Freeman, who is also known as Saurik is set to provide a lecture on iOS 11 jailbreak at SpartaHack hackathon, which was held. Saurik will reportedly demonstrate the forthcoming jailbreak tool together with other information such as present advancements, release date and a lot more.
Apart from that, the old-guard jailbreak member is also expected to talk about Cydia and how closed systems are unfavorable for a community. For some reference, Cydia is an “open system” which is similar to the internet. This is also the main reason behind its gigantic success within the jailbreak scene.
Saurik already confirmed that he is working on Cydia for iOS 11 and that he is in collaboration with people from past jailbreaks on another iOS 11 jailbreak tool. Nonetheless, he hasn’t confirmed any release date yet.
As a matter of fact, a Reddit user who attended the hackathon has confirmed that Saurik did not provide any launch date for iOS 11 compatible Cydia and Cydia Substrate. With that, it appears like there is still some job to be done. The Reddit user writes:
Contrary to popular belief, Saurik’s presentation was not focused on jailbreaking. He touched on a variety of topics like closed ecosystems, censorship, the concerning amount of data and analytics companies have on their user base. [..]
When asked about the estimated time of arrival of Cydia for iOS 11, no information was given. It seems that he’s already close but still has to work on solving a few more complicated pieces before it’d be ready for release.
Remarkably, he was also inquired about the future of jailbreaking, “he wasn’t optimistic, but he acknowledged he’s been saying “that’ll be the last jailbreak” for like 5 years now.”
It really appears that the wait for Cydia and Cydia Substrate for iOS 11 continues. But then, we’ll surely update you once fresh details are divulged.
