The Humongous Success of KGF Catapults Yash To The Peak of Stardom, and Rightly So
2018 saw the release of many films which went on to surprise audiences as well as trade pundits. While many high-profile movies like Race 3, Thugs Of Hindostan and Zero fell flat at the box-office, what took everyone by surprise was the dazzling performance of small and medium budgeted films like Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Raazi, Stree, Andhadhun, and Badhaai Ho, to name just a few. Besides all aforementioned films, there was a multilingual period gangster drama which caught everybody’s attention, and the film was called KGF: Chapter 1.
Topline by Kannada star Yash alongside Srinidhi, the movie hit screens alongside superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s much-hyped film Zero. While Zero failed to live up to the expectations of the audience and incurred heavy losses to the makers, KGF emerged as victorious at the cash counter and the makers laughed all the way to the bank. Ever since entering cinemas on 21st December, KGF: Chapter 1 has been making history for Kannada cinema.
Besides Kannada, the period film was also released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. It zoomed past the coveted ₹ 200 crore mark within 18 days of its theatrical run, becoming the first Kannada film to achieve the feat. The Hindi version of the movie also put up an impressive show by earning over ₹ 40 crore mark, despite facing competition from biggies like Zero and Simmba.
The stupendous success of KGF: Chapter 1 has established its main lead Yash as one of the biggest stars of the Kannada film industry. The fact that the audience in the Hindi belt also accepted his film with open arms is going to help him further in his career.
Helmed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Vijay Kiragandu, KGF is a two-part series. Since the first part has done so well all across the world, the audience will be waiting for the second instalment with bated breath. If KGF: Chapter 2 also turns out to be a box-office success, it will take Yash’s stardom to another level.
