The smart speaker HomePod from the tech giant Apple remains fantastic when it was launched last year on June 5 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2017).  However, not all of its features could apparently support and defeat all of its competitors. The operating system audioOS was made specifically for the home speaker but needs more improvements.

According to AppleInsider, the company’s developer conference WWDC 2018 is set to come this next month and is known in revealing their future updates for most of its operating systems. This event will likely be the first time for the home speaker HomePod to be featured after its introduction last year. However, it is still not clear on what will Apple announce. If ever there are updates for audioOS, we hope to see many issues fixed.

The HomePod currently allows you to stream easily through Apple’s services, such as Apple Music and iTunes Match. However, you can only use AirPlay if you will listen to Spotify or another service. Fetching the content is difficult without the support of Bluetooth or an auxiliary cable when streaming for other services. It would be convenient to just ask the virtual assistant Siri to turn into iHeartRadio or go to the location where you left off in your audiobook.

On HomePod, Siri sadly cannot set multiple timers, make phone calls, or find a recipe unlike its competitors, such as Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant. If the home speaker can adapt its own user-configurable settings, it would be better, just like the Zipp speaker having various audio profiles. Having device-specific controls is preferable for the HomePod than pushing pre-adjusted content even if the iPod Hi-Fi, which adjusts the EQ levels, can manually fine tune in iTunes and be streamed to the home speaker.

Currently, the HomePod can act as an AirPlay speaker for the Apple TV to improve the home cinema setup. However, it would also be convenient if Siri can play or pause the Apple TV or a specific movie or TV show to act as a hands-free voice-activated remote control.

So, what are your thoughts on the latest rumor of HomePod’s major update? Let us know by writing in the comment section.
