Riding high on the thunderous success of recent silver screen adaptations such as The Jungle Book (2016) and Beauty and the Beast (2017), which went on to amass huge collections, Disney is now gearing up to treat the audience with the live-action remake of one of their popular animated classics, Aladdin. Filmmaker Guy Ritchie, who has to his credit a series of successful movies like Revolver (2005), RocknRolla (2008), Sherlock Holmes (2009), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), has come on board to helm the musical adaptation.

If a report is to be believed, Aladdin will boast of an incredible ensemble cast which includes the likes of Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith, among others. Canadian actor Mena Massoud, who has previously acted in popular television series Open Heart, has been roped in to play the titular protagonist, Aladdin. The actor has been cast opposite Naomi Scott in the movie, who will be seen as Princess Jasmine. Immensely talented Will Smith is also there in the role of the Genie.

According to a premier entertainment portal, “Disney faced challenges to lock down cast members to portray the main characters. In 2017, a worldwide casting call began for the lead roles of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, in search of diverse actors who could sing as well as act. After talk of potential leads from big stars to total unknowns, Aladdin finally found its cast.”

In addition to Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and Will Smith, Aladdin also features Marwan Kenzarilay as Jafar, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders and Numan Acar as Hakim. After looking at such a fantastic star cast, one thing is certain that the live-action remake of Aladdin is going to be a cinematic experience the audience will cherish forever.

The Aladdin live-action remake is scheduled for its theatrical bow in 2019.
