NVIDIA GeForce GTX 2080, 2070 Ampere Graphics Cards Rumored To Launch At GTC 2018
NVIDIA is reportedly working on a fresh lineup of GeForce GTX graphics cards Dubbed as GTX 2080 and 2070. The said cards will be based on NVIDIA’s forthcoming 12nm Ampere graphics architecture and said to debut officially during GTC 2018 in the late March.
NVIDIA’s Ampere graphics architecture has been a subject of rumors for quite a sometime. The upcoming architecture’s code name hasn’t been openly disclosed by graphics chip maker in any of its previous roadmaps. However, reports claim that Ampere will power the next generation GeForce GTX 2080 and 2070 this year.
There are several features for Ampere rumored but the major two key features of said architecture contain TSMC’s new 12nm manufacturing process and Samsung’s new 16gbps GDDR6 memory. Regarding the first Ampere GPU release, it is expected that NVIDIA is going to announce in the March with the name GA104, which will be a replacement to GP104 (GTX 1080/70) and GP102 (GTX 1080 Ti) in terms of performance.
Therefore NVIDIA GeForce GTX 2080 and 2070 is expected to have a similar pricing as to the GTX 1080/70 and also similar performance to GTX 1080 Ti/ Titan XP. As per the rumors, the production of GA104 is underway since January, while the GP102 is almost became outdated.
Moreover, the naming scheme of the GeForce GTX Ampere series cards has yet to be announced, and “2080” and “2070” are unconfirmed as of now. Whether the NVIDIA will follow a 20 series or 11 series naming scheme is yet to be decided. However, with since the upcoming series is said to be released in coming weeks at GTC 2018 then it is not too long when all thing will become clearer.
It should be noted that this is just rumors so take this with a pinch of salt. GTC is scheduled to be held on March 26 to March 29, the announcement for NVIDIA GTX 2080 and 2070 Ampere Cards will come at Jensen’s keynote speech.
