GTA 6: VR Support, Time Travel, And Release Date
It’s been years since Rockstar Games released the Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V or GTA 5), and fans have been asking and waiting for a sequel. With the release of the company’s Western classic massive open world game Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) and seeing what the company is capable of, the desire (or you can say demand for some) for the release of the GTA 6 just intensified even more.
Although many things about the GTA 6 are still kept under wraps, that hasn’t stop people from seeking out details about it. What details? Well, fortunately, the folks over at The Leaker recently published a list of some of the rumored features of the said game.
There have been rumors about the GTA 6 coming to the VR platform for quite some time now. What VR headset? Unfortunately, specific VR headsets have not been mentioned.
But one of the most important question is: Is it a good idea? Will there even be a market for it? The thing is, one of the issues that people pointed out is the problem with VR gaming is the motion sickness that its users experienced when playing fast-paced and action-packed sequences in long sessions.
With gamers, usually they tend to play for hours. All of us have at least experienced once in our lives telling/promising ourselves to play for 30 minutes only and then find out that you’ve been playing for hours and it’s already 5:00 am because you’ve been totally engrossed with the game. And the best thing about it? You have an important exam later in the morning and you haven’t studied, or you have work so you try to recall all the movies you’ve watched to come up with a good excuse in case you need to explain yourself.
Unless tech companies find a way to remove this motion sickness issue in VR gaming, then it will probably be a good idea. In fact, we’ve seen patents for this like the one from Sony. But of course, motion sickness isn’t the only factor that needs to be considered, there are many that needs to be addressed as well. On the flip side, there are also positive things that VR gaming has to offer.
Another rumor about the GTA 6 that has been going on for a while is time travel. As noted by The Leaker:
“We saw this in a back to the future: hill valley mod for GTA Vice City, but it only had futuristic vehicles some cops cars“.
Will such thing be featured in GTA 6? It’s hard to say. If it will, it could be similar to RDR2’s time traveler Easter egg, or there could be a mission on GTA 6 that references RDR2 or you can travel back to RDR2’s timeline. Who knows.
When Can We Expect The Game?
First, let’s take a look at the release dates of the GTA 4:
- April 2008 — PS3 and Xbox 360
- December 2008 — Microsoft Windows
Now, let’s look at GTA 5’s:
- September 2013 — PS3 and Xbox 360
- November 2014 — PS4 and Xbox One
- April 2015 — Microsoft Windows
As you can see, there was a 5-year gap between the GTA 4 and GTA 5 which is why people assumed that GTA 6 will be released in 2018. Instead, Rockstar Games released RDR2.
But wait… What about the GTA 3? Well, here are its release dates:
- October 2001 — PS2
- May 2002 — Microsoft Windows
- October 2003 — Xbox (NA)
- January 2004 — Xbox (PAL)
Here, we can see that there was a 7-year gap between GTA 3 and GTA 4. Perhaps Rockstar Games plans to follow this route for the GTA 6?
Also, back in October 2018, on a recent interview with GQ, Rockstar Games’ co-founder Dan Houser expressed his relief that GTA 6 wasn’t happening during Trump’s divided America. The thing is, today in the US, topics like social issues, cultural stereotypes and politics can be very sensitive subjects to talk about. With the nature of the GTA games, it won’t really sit well.
Yes, we can definitely see the basis of Houser’s reasoning. However, if the GTA 6 will not be released during Pres. Trump’s divided America, when will it be released then? After Pres. Trump steps down? As we’ve mentioned on our article, Pres. Trump’s term will end on January 2021. But what if Trump gets re-elected?
Anyhow, although the GTA 6’s release date is still unknown, reports speculate that it could be in 2020, 2021, or much later. But many are betting on 2020-2021.
