DJI Mavic 2 Pro: Possible Reasons For Recent Price Hike... Everything You Need To Know!
DJI’s recent price increase in some of their drone accessories got a huge response from a lot of consumers. Considering a lot of brow-raising questions behind the price increase, the company didn’t specifically provide a concrete explanation on why the price increase happened in the first place. Let’s take a look at the possible causes for the price increase of DJI products.
The Mavic 2 Pro got a $50 price hike and jump from $1,449 to $1,499. This price increase came a few days after the price hike of many accessories that is essential to all drone operators. On the bright side, the Mavic 2 Zoom still sits at $1,249 and hopefully, DJI will not change the price tag for this one as well.
Many DJI accessories lead the way of the company’s price hike. One prime example of the price hike can be seen with their Fly More Kit. The Fly More Kit almost got a 20% increase from the original price of $319 and currently sits at $379. The spare batteries and the ND filter also had a price spike.
DJI’s Indirect Explanation
DJI provided some sort of explanation on why the price has been increased. However, we haven’t got a direct answer on why the price hiked in the first place. Here’s what the drone manufacturers got to say in their newsroom page last September 15.
DJI regularly reviews its product strategy and pricing structure for its drones, handheld products, and accessories. Price adjustments enable us to produce high-quality, cutting-edge technology according to our standard of innovation.
Starting September 17, 2018, 12 am EDT, the retail price of the Mavic 2 Pro will be adjusted globally. The US retail price will be USD $1,499. The prices of the Mavic 2 Fly More Kit, DJI Care Refresh protection plan, and individual accessories have also been adjusted accordingly. For customers who require additional batteries, propellers, chargers, and a carrying case, the Fly More Kit remains the most ideal option with a significant cost saving.
One reason that many of us can think of is the possibility that it might have something to do with trade tariffs. It is obvious that the trade war between the US and China will have a direct and indirect effect on the pricing.
If that is the case, we can expect that the whole product line will get a price increase. However, the Mavic 2 Zoom still retains its original pricing and other products from their line is still intact to their current price tags so this reason is less likely the cause of the price increase.
Rumors also pointing out that the increased prices were originally the company’s intended prices for their products. Some believe that DJI was just running some sort of a promotional or introductory price for the drone and its accessories. The company just simply lifted that promotional window and the prices went to their original prices.
For now, DJI still haven’t made an official statement on where or what the price increase came from. Hopefully, the company will not do another batch of price hike in their products as it will surely affect a lot of consumers that are budget conscious.
