Gather around drone fans, because there’s this product that you might be interested with. An Anchorage-based tech company called Indemnis has developed a parachute safety system for the DJI Inspire 2 drone.

About Indemnis

Indemnis was founded in 2015 and is headquartered at Anchorage, AK. The company specializes in providing needed safety solutions to the commercial UAV community.

The Parachute Safety System

According to a report, the Anchorage-based tech company has developed this parachute system called Nexus. It is a parachute system for the DJI Inspire 2 drone that helps keep people on the ground safe by slowly lowering a drone that would otherwise fall.

The Indemnis Nexus is first of its kind to meet an international safety standard, paving the way for FAA permission to fly a drone over crowds. Design-wise, it looks like a canister attached to the drone. As for its features, it is equipped with sensors that monitor the drone for signs of tilting, wobbling, or falling, at which point it fires out a small parachute at 90mph. In addition to that, it was also designed to avoid the drone’s body and rotors during this process.

Availability

According to reports, the Indemni’s system is available starting today for the DJI Inspire 2. Moreover, the company also plans to launch a version of the parachute for the Matrice 200 and 600 series of drones before the end of 2019.

As for where to buy Nexus, unfortunately, we failed to locate it. However, we assume that it is through contacting Indemnis at their official site, because on the main page there’s a line that reads, “Ready To Protect Your Fleet? CONTACT INDEMNIS TODAY”.

The DJI Inspire 2

The DJI Inspire 2 can be purchased on DJI’s official online store. It features a price tag of $2,999 USD which is for the base unit alone. The price can rise depending on what camera.

As for its features, it offers:

  • Flight Time – 23 to 27 minutes
  • Speed – 94 km/h
  • Sensory range – 30 meters
  • Control range – 7 km
  • Video resolution – 6K/5.2K
  • Live view – 1080p
