Confirmed: A Third ‘Walking Dead' Series In The Works At AMC Networks
Over the years, the post-apocalyptic horror television series The Walking Dead has entertained audiences like none. But we cannot also ignore the fact that people’s interest starts waning soon if they keep watching something again and again. Something similar seems to have happened with the AMC Networks series as well. Ratings for its super successful show The Walking Dead have been dropping considerably in its ninth season, but the network is in no mood to part ways with the series. It has just confirmed that a third series based on its zombie apocalypse universe is already in the works.
Speaking on the fourth quarter earnings call with analysts, AMC CEO Josh Sapan revealed some important details about a third series in the pipeline. He said that plans around the new series have already begun. Walking Dead chief content officer Scott Gimple and the company have been ‘overwhelmed’ with potential partners for the show. He also added, “That is in active development. We’re not yet at a stage where we’ll be announcing its plans to premiere. But we have hired creative people that have pitched story outlines. We feel very good about the development of that series.”
AMC had been running a second zombie series, Fear the Walking Dead and when Walking Dead co-star Andrew Lincoln bowed out of the show in 2018, the network went on to state that the talented actor would be back to be seen in a series of Walking Dead movies that would appear on AMC Networks.
Talking about the third series of the zombie apocalypse universe, AMC Networks COO Ed Carroll said “Series Three” under the Walking Dead banner series is now in “active development. He added it is “not yet at a stage where we’ll be announcing its plans to premiere, but we have hired creative people that have pitched story outlines. We feel very good about the development of that series.”
