BTS walks away with Favorite Social Artist Award at American Music Awards 2018
The K-pop mega-group walked away with the award for Favorite Social Artist at the 2018 American Music Awards ceremony held on Tuesday, while the band was performing in London, as part of their Love Yourself world tour. The band achieved this coveted win by beating out artists like Ariana Grande, Cardi B, Demi Lovato, and Shawn Mendes.
This triumph by BTS, a seven-member South Korean boy band formed by Big Hit Entertainment, does not come as a surprise, thanks to the massive support it always gains from the group’s ARMY fanbase. The win has just proved how popular the band has become around the world ever since coming into being in the year 2013.
After the award was announced, the group members, appearing in the matching band suits, said, ‘We are BTS! Thank you so much, we’re so thrilled to win the Favourite Social Artist Award! ‘Sorry we can’t be there, we’re in London, starting the European leg of our tour. We just finished touring America and there was so much love and support! ‘Thank you, Army, so much, for voting for us for this very special award! And thank you, AMAs!’
Well, this is not the first huge win for BTS in 2018. In May, the group snagged the Top Social Artist Award at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. The AMA award is the latest feather BTS has added to its cap.
The popularity of the group is increasing by leaps and bounds in all the corners of the globe and it should not come as a surprise if, in coming months, all the big music awards fall into its lap. Recently, the group became the first South Korean musicians to host an American stadium show at its New York City’s Citi Field concert on Oct. 6, which just shows how far it’s reaching.
