There has been a steady bombardment of sequels in Bollywood of late, but the one sequel that all the Hindi film enthusiasts have been waiting for with bated breath is yet to hit the shooting floor. We are talking about the much-anticipated sequel to the Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, and Arjun Rampal starrer Aankhen, the heist thriller which turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the year 2002.

After years of speculations, Aankhen 2 was first set to start rolling in 2016 when an official announcement was made with much fanfare with the new star cast. Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, and Arshad Warsi had come together to take the franchise forward. However, before the makers could start shooting, the project landed in soup over copyright issues and was eventually shelved.

The latest we hear that the makers have put together a completely new team for Aankhen 2. Anees Bazmee, known for such super hit films as Welcome (2007), Ready (2011) and Mubarkan (2017), has been locked to helm the project. Producers Tarun Agarwal and Sunil Lulla have joined hands to bankroll the movie.

Talking about the cast of Aankhen 2, producer Tarun Agarwal reveals that Amitabh Bachchan has been retained to play expelled bank manager Vijay Singh Rajput in the sequel. The team is currently busy finalizing other actors. “Mr. Bachchan is on board and for the rest of the cast we are looking for younger actors and are currently in talks with some but can’t divulge any other names yet,” he says.

Spilling beans of shooting details of the upcoming movie, Agarwal says, “We will be filming in London and Georgia. The casino, as required in the story, has already been booked in Georgia. For the rest of the locations, we are scouting in the UK.” The film might hit screens in early 2020.
