Bella Thorne Set To Headline Social Media Heist Thriller ‘Southland’
Gorgeous actress Bella Thorne, who is known for her outstanding performances in such films as Assassination Nation and Famous In Love, has added yet another interesting project to her pocket. The star has signed on to play the female lead in writer-director Joshua Caldwell’s (Layover) forthcoming crime feature, titled Southland. The movie, which is expected to mount the shooting floor in a couple of months, revolves around two young lovers who rob their way across the Southland. They share their exploits on various social media platforms and gain fame and followers in no time. This sounds to be an interesting premise. Isn’t it?
The project is being produced by Colin Bates and Michael Jefferson of Lucidity Entertainment alongside Thor Bradwell and Scott Levenson. Besides them, Garrett Clayton, Katie Leary, Bennett Litwin, and Adam Litwin are associated with the venture as executive producers. Highland Film Group has been entrusted with the responsibility of handling world sales for the film.
The story follows Arielle (Thorne) who works in a diner in a small Florida town. When she falls for a recently paroled young criminal she drags him back into a life of danger, learning that posting their criminal exploits on social media is an easy way to viral fame. Obsessed with their rising number of followers, they embark on a dangerous adventure together that leads to robbery, cop chases, and murder.
Caldwell, who began his directorial career with French-language film Layover in 2014, has established himself as one of the most sought after filmmakers in the West. His debut vehicle had its grand premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival. He then went on to call the shots for the first season of Hulu series South Beach and Be Somebody for Paramount Pictures. His most recent work includes spy thriller movie Negative, which received a positive response from critics as well as the audience.
