Apple Rumors: 2019 iPhone Will Feature Notch Design, 2020 iPhone Will Feature "Hole In Display"
A few days from now we will be stepping into 2019. With that, you know what that means: a new iPhone lineup from Apple. As for its name, we’re not sure what will it be called but reports suggest that it could be iPhone 11, iPhone X2, iPhone XI or whatever it is – it’s anybody’s guess.
Speaking of future iPhones, a prominent leakster in the tech community who goes by the name Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) shared some inside information regarding the front design of future iPhones.
According to him, the 2019 iPhones will still feature a notch design. Meanwhile, the 2020 iPhones will use a “hole in the display”.
As far as I know, the 2019 iPhone still uses Notch, and in 2020 will use hole in display.

Although Ice Universe didn’t mention where he got this information, reports note that the leakster has a very solid track record regarding smartphone leaks. And if you go check his/her Twitter profile, it’s filled with Samsung leaks. Of course, there are leaks from other smartphone brands as well like Apple, Huawei, Vivo, ZTE, and others.
Wait A Minute… What Is This “Hole In Display”?
We all know about the notch design – some hate, some love, and some are indifferent about it. But what is this “hole in the display” that Ice Universe mentioned?
The “hole in the display” is also known as the “punch hole” design or “hole-punch display”. This design has been featured on smartphones like the Huawei Nova 4.
As you can see, the front design doesn’t feature a notch design. All we have is the front camera positioned on the top left of the display. With this kind of design, it gives the device’s screen more space. In fact, according to a report, Samsung plans to introduce such tech across all premium Galaxy models.
What Name Will The 2019 iPhones Carry?
In 2018, Apple released the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max. Although the company wants people to pronounce the names as “Ten R” for the XR, “Ten S” for the XS, and “Ten S Max” for the XS Max, some are reading them as “ex R”, “ex S” and “ex S Max”.
So for the 2019 iPhones, tech enthusiasts are not sure what will be their names. Back in September, Value Walk made a list of possible names:
- iPhone 11 / iPhone XI
- iPhone Pro
- Apple Phone
- iPhone Panther
