Should Apple Release The iPhone SE 2 In 2019?
The iPhone SE smartphone is one of the beloved products from Apple due to its budget-friendly price tag which sits under the $500 price range. Considering this, it comes to no surprise that there are some people who are hoping that the Cupertino-based tech company will launch a successor, iPhone SE2.
So, Should Apple Launch An iPhone SE 2?
According to French site Lesoir, in the light of the difficulties faced by Apple to sell expensive smartphones, releasing an iPhone SE2 could perhaps be the solution for the firm to get back on track with smartphones. But first, let’s take a look at the price tags of the 2016 iPhone SE and the 2018 iPhone lineup:
- iPhone SE – 32GB (around $300), 128GB (around $450)
- iPhone XR – starts at $749 with 64GB
- iPhone XS – starts at $999 with 64GB
- iPhone XS Max – starts at $1,099 with 64GB
The French site notes Apple CEO Tim Cook’s open letter to the investors this month. The CEO recognizes that the demand for iPhone is below expectations especially in China and admits that the next results will not live up to expectations.
“While we anticipated some challenges in key emerging markets, we did not foresee the magnitude of the economic deceleration, particularly in Greater China. In fact, most of our revenue shortfall to our guidance, and over 100 percent of our year-over-year worldwide revenue decline, occurred in Greater China across iPhone, Mac and iPad.”
As you may have already known, the iPhone XR is supposed to be Apple’s “budget” iPhone model in the 2018 lineup. Although it is indeed one hell of a device due to its price, specs and features when compared to the iPhone XS and XS Max, it is still quite expensive nonetheless when compared to the iPhone SE.
What course of action do you think Apple should take? Should the company cut down the price of their future products? Or should they stick with whatever price they believe in but at least release an iPhone SE 2 with a price tag below the $500 range? Tell us in the comment section below.
