According to Inverse, The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted Apple a series of 48 patents. Out of the 48 patents, 3 of them showcased an unnamed set of over-ear headphones.

Is This Perhaps The Rumored Apple “StudioPods”?
Last month, MacWorld reported that Apple plans to launch an over-ear headphone in 2019. It’s a combination of the HomePod and AirPods technology.
According to the report, back in February 2018, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the Cupertino-based tech company plans to have their own-brand, high-end over-ear headphones with an all-new design. Moreover, it is designed to be as convenient as AirPods with better sound quality. Shipment will begin in the fourth quarter of Apple’s financial year 2018.
On March 2018, it was reported the headphones were supposed to launch as early as by the end of 2018. However, Apple faced some development challenges so it there’s a chance that the release date might be changed.
On June 2018, Bloomberg then confirmed that the release date has been pushed back to 2019.
As for its rumored features, nothing much is known about it. However, if we are to consider that it is a combination of the HomePod and AirPods, we can expect it to have:
- Noise-canceling capabilities
- Wireless pairing functionality like the AirPods
- Wireless charging
How Much Will It Cost?
Regarding its price tag, Kuo claimed that the new over-ear headphones will cost more than the AirPods. The AirPods launched with a price tag of $159.
