Apple Inc. has confirmed that its Macs and iOS devices were affected by Spectre and Meltdown bugs. But then, latest tech news today reveals that the Cupertino-based tech giant will launch bug defense in the coming days.

According to Digital Trends, it was on January 3, when the Spectre and Meltdown bugs affected the Apple devices. The said issue is associated with how the programs access memory, most specifically the information that should only be available to the operating system kernel. The said exploits are ones where malicious programs can enter the protected kernel memory space and “see” the information that must be confidential.

Nevertheless, the complete details, which are not yet available as of this moment, are quite technical. It also relates to how a CPU moves in and out of secure kernel mode. Moreover, the Google blog outlines the said glitch, which was discovered by its Google Project Zero team last year.

The most important thing is the result: Keeping the kernel in virtual memory makes the procedure as fast as conceivable. Just in case the CPU doesn’t have to dump and then load the kernel again, then it can accomplish faster performance. Unluckily, it also makes kernel contents susceptible to being opened by despicable programs.

According to the CNN, Apple made an announcement last Thursday, January 4. The Cupertino-based tech company said that it has released mitigations to secure against Meltdown in iOS 11.2, macOS 10.13.2, and tvOS 11.2. Apart from that, it will also release mitigations in Safari to protect against the Spectre bug in the coming days.

“There are no known exploits impacting customers at this time,” Apple stated in the press release echoing what other establishments and security researchers have said.

It was also worth mentioning that the Apple Watch isn’t impacted by the said Meltdown flaw. Hopefully, Apple will be able to release the defense against Spectre bug really soon.
