Is The Apple MacBook Dying? Reports Say It Could Soon Be No More
Apple has quite a number of products under its belt. One of them is the MacBook which has two other cousins – MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Speaking of the MacBook, after the recent Apple event, tech enthusiasts began to wonder if this Apple laptop has reached its end.
So… Is There No Room For The MacBook?
According to reports, it does seem that the MacBook currently has no place, or its position in the line of Apple laptops is unneeded. Why? Well, let’s review the “reasons” why.
Take this year’s MacBook releases. Apple launched the MacBook Pro last July and the 13-inch MacBook Air on the recent October event.
With the MacBook Pro, it serves as the “premium” version of Apple laptops. It comes with the specs and features that one would expect from a high-end device. And of course, it also comes with a high-end price tag – $1,799 for its 13-inch version and $2,399 for its 15-inch version.
On the other hand, we have the new 13-inch MacBook Air. It serves as Apple’s “most affordable” laptop which starts at $1,119. Furthermore, the new MacBook Air features two Thunderbolt 3 ports, Touch ID and a 720p FaceTime camera.
Whereas the currently available 12-inch MacBook (launched in 2017), it features a single USB-C port and a 480p FaceTime camera. It came with an introductory price of $1,299.
With this, tech enthusiasts are wondering: Where does the MacBook stand? Where will it go from here? Will it need a substantial refresh and reframing about its place in the MacBook line-up, or will Apple choose to cut it?
Sure, it can stand as a “mid-range” version of Apple laptops. But with that, there’s another issue as well that needs to be addressed…
There Are Other Competitors
Apple is one of the most recognizable tech brands in the world. However, not everyone is a devote Apple-only user. There are other tech brands out there like Google and Microsoft that offers amazing laptops.
If you want a much cheaper yet dependable laptop, there’s the Dell XPS 13 that starts at $999 which features 1080p display and a quad-core Intel processor. And if you want a price range that’s similar to the MacBook Air, there’s the Huawei MateBook X Pro which comes with a 13.9-inch display that has a 3K resolution and quad-core Intel processing.
